Emergency services rushed to the scene of a multi-vehicle collision on the M6 southbound between junctions 33 and 34, close to Forton Services, this afternoon (February 18).

Police have confirmed that up to five vehicles were involved in the collision.

All three lanes of the carriageway were blocked and traffic was queuing as a result of the collision.

All lanes have now reopened but there are still residual queues in the area.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "We are currently at the scene of a collision involving up to five vehicles south of Forton Services on the southbound carriageway of the M6.

"All three lanes have been blocked and emergency services are at the scene.

"We would urge motorists to avoid the area where possible."

It is not yet known if anyone was injured in the collision.

Motorists experienced delays of up to 25 minutes, according to the AA.

North West Ambulance service have been approached for comment.
