Trains delayed after man hit on railway line

Police have confirmed that the person hit by a train at Lancaster on Thursday morning was a 38-year-old man from Lancaster, in a suspected suicide.

British Transport Police officers were called to the line near Five Ashes Lane opposite Lancaster University just before 10am.

Paramedics from the North West Ambulance Service were called, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The body was taken to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary to be identified, and the coroner has been informed, but an inquest has not yet been opened.
