Time for tea in aid of Rosemere charity

For this coming Saturday (March 5), villager Marion Plowright will convert her lounge at her home in The Square into The Little Cumbrian Tea Room for the third time to raise money for Rosemere.

With a baby grand piano in one corner of the room, Marion can fit seven clothed and flower decorated tables for two into the remaining space to serve guests her famous straight-from-the-oven scones, which come with cream, strawberries and blueberries and either as much hot tea or coffee as you can drink.

There will also be a selection of home-made cakes on offer. Throughout their tea, guests will be serenaded by one of three accomplished local pianists.

They are well known Lancaster composer and pianist Andy Whitfield, Robert Richmond, who is a former director of music at Lancaster’s Ripley St Thomas CE Academy, and Marion’s neighbour Stuart Wickes, who is pianist for the village choir.

Marion said: “In creating The Little Cumbrian Tea Room, I have made it the sort of place I would love to come for tea myself.”

But in order to ensure guests can enjoy their experience to the maximum, Marion is running the 
tea room to a “sittings” formula, which means reservations must be made in advance for sittings timed at 10.30am, 11.30am, 1.30 pm and 2.30 pm.

It is a system which has previously worked well when Marion popped up with The Little Cumbrian Tea Room to raise money for Lancaster’s St John’s 
Hospice and more recently, Macmillan Cancer Support last September when she raised £400 for the charity.

Marion said: “I have been very well supported previously with guests telling me it was a lovely way to help good causes as it also gave them a chance to meet up with friends and family over tea. I’m therefore hoping that as it’s Mothers’ Day weekend, all tables at all sittings will sell out as treats for all the hard working mums.”
