Surprise 100th birthday party delights Caton pensioner

A pensioner was delighted with a surprise party to mark her 100th birthday.

Gladys Till was presented with birthday cards and presents at the Scarthwaite Hotel in Caton by members of her Tuesday lunch club.

All of the lunch club members had a collection and presented her with a Waterford crystal fruit bowl and Donna Studholme, operations director for Age UK Lancashire, was there to present her with a bouquet of flowers.

Gladys, who has lived in Caton all her life, was also presented with birthday cards signed by everyone and received an extra special card from the Queen.

One of the lunch club members made and decorated a fantastic cake which celebrated Gladys’ love of sewing and knitting.

The party was organised by Ron Harris, a lunch club volunteer, along with Ann Rogers and Anne Oliver from Age UK Lancashire.

Mrs Till, who has two children and four grandchildren, lives a very active lifestyle and enjoys holidays and spending time with her family.

She has been invited to officially reopen Age UK Lancashire’s office in Lancaster on August 12 when it opens for the first time since the floods.

The event takes place at the Age UK Lancashire offices on Chapel Street from 11am until 2pm. The official ribbon cutting with Gladys will take place at noon. The day includes refreshments, music and information about Age UK Lancashire. Everybody welcome.
