Students on the right road to learning how to drive safely

Senior schools in Lancaster recently took part in a Road Safety Awareness Day involving Lancashire Constabulary’s Neighbourhood and Traffic Officers in conjunction with Young Driver, driver training.

A total of 140 students from Ripley St Thomas, Lancaster Girls’ Grammar School, Central Lancaster High School and The Loyne Specialist School took part.

The pupils involved will be the next generation of drivers and appreciated the road safety advice as well as experiencing a driving lesson with fully trained driving instructors.

One of the school teachers involved said: “Thank you so much for inviting us to attend the day. The girls were raving about it when we returned to school and were keen to share their learning with their friends. 

“Many of our students who took up the chance were bursary students, who couldn’t usually afford this, and it was especially pleasing to see them enjoy the practical driving lesson. 

“The day had just the right tone, with serious input from the traffic officer, and the opportunity to ask questions. We would love to be part of this again.”

The events were funded by our local Community Safety Partnership and formed preventative measures to help reduce road casualties in the future.
