Ben France, Lancaster strongman and health and fitness coordinator at the centre, has been on hand to advise some of the local competitors having competed in strong man competitions himself for nearly a decade.

In August 2015, Ben was crowned UK Masters Strongest Man before going on to compete in the World Masters Strongest Man competition, finishing sixth overall.

Rosie Pearson, 21, from Lancaster, who will be competing, said: “People who want to get into competing should definitely go for it - especially women, who might think that they aren’t strong enough but they are.”

Coun Darren Clifford, Lancaster City Council cabinet member for leisure, said: “We’re very proud that our local sports centre is able to tick all the right boxes when it comes to providing the venue for prestigious events such as this.

“I would urge anyone interested in supporting our local competitors or fancies taking up competitive weight lifting themselves to come along to be inspired and cheer them all on.”

The event acts as a qualifier for bigger competitions such as the Arnold’s World Championships in America. It starts at 10.30am.

A nominal admission fee applies.
