Street closed due to loose roof tile

Wet and windy weather caused a tile to come loose on a roof.

Part of Cheapside in Lancaster was closed off as Lancashire Fire and Rescue removed a tile from one of the shop roofs which had been loosened by the high wind.

There was a risk of it falling onto the pavement and injuring a pedestrian.

Police closed off the pedestrianised area on Thursday, November 13, at 3.45pm.

The Met Office weather report for Morecambe said the rain was due to die out by 1pm today, Friday, followed by sun between 3pm and 4pm.

There are currently no flood warnings for the Morecambe and Lancaster area.

There were no delays on the motorways and A roads due to the wet weather conditions.

The Heysham to Belfast ferry Stena Precision was delayed due to severe weather in the Irish Sea.

The sailing at around 10am on November 14 arrived into port later than expected.

Diane Poole OBE, Stena Line’s Head of PR and Communications, said: “The Stena Precision was not in trouble at any time.

“Due to the severe weather conditions the vessel arrived into port later than expected.”
