Stirring speech brings new business to Morecambe firm

The founder and creative director of Morecambe-based The Design Attic recently made such an inspiring speech that he was invited to quote for work on the spot!

Having not spoken in public for two years, Matthew Brown was nervous about being in the spotlight at the Shout Network meeting at Wyrebank Banqueting Suite in Garstang.

Usually confident at meetings and presentations, Matthew accepted the invitation to talk about the importance of having a strong brand for your business with some trepidation, even though it’s his specialised subject.

He said “I am a member of Shout and have always gone to the fortnightly get togethers to catch up with old colleagues and meet new contacts. I am comfortable with face to face networking but talking in front of a seated crowd was a daunting task.”

However, Matthew’s presentation went so well that afterwards he was approached by the manager of the venue, who wanted to work with him. He quoted for a project, won the work and Wyrebank are now a full service client!

The Design Attic are going from strength to strength since moving into their office in the iconic Winter Gardens building.

Since the move in August, they’ve added 10 clients to their already enviable portfolio and are now so busy they’ve upgraded their part-time designer into a full time positon.

Matthew said: “Having another full-timer in the office leaves me free to run the business, spend time with clients and get involved with the branding which is really where my heart lies. My dream was to stay in my home town and create employment for local people and I’m thrilled that it’s now happening. I’ve three members of staff as well as a bank of freelancers I can rely on at peak times”.

The Design Attic’s next plan is to launch a “Brand Clinic” where local businesses can drop into the office to meet Matthew, understand his services and talk through any brand issues they may be having.
