Lancaster & Morecambe College are set to unveil another impressive development this September as part of their ten year ‘College Master Plan’, which will see a complete regeneration of the campus.
The Hexagon Student & Learning Centre has been redeveloped by project partners Ellis Williams Architects and Kier Construction and will open its doors in time for new students joining the college in September.
Inside, the hexagon-shaped development features an open plan learning resource centre with an impressive high beamed ceiling design.
Students will be able to learn independently or work together on group projects in the multifunctional space which also includes a whole range of digital equipment, iPads, PCs and Wi-Fi alongside the college library facilities and a new higher education research centre.
The furniture inside the development was sourced locally and manufactured as bespoke pieces, with some innovative new seating areas and workstations providing the focal point.
The exterior offers an insight into the future of the college with timber framing and design cladding making it a state of the art addition to the campus.
Student Ellis Nutt said: “I am excited about the new Hexagon; I think it will really improve the learning environment and I can’t wait to make the most of the new equipment.”
The Hexagon sits at the heart of the college and combines the library facilities with Student Services and Learning Support, meaning it offers all the guidance and support a student could need, under one roof.
It is hoped that the new Hexagon will further enhance the student experience at the college starting from the new September term.
Stuart Rimmer, director of quality and enterprise at the college, said: “We are delighted to be able to offer our students this fantastic new facility from September.
“The Hexagon is the centre piece of Lancaster & Morecambe College and we have developed an innovative learning space which we are confident will deliver a great selection of resources designed to help our students excel in their studies.”
Lancaster & Morecambe College have recently been voted into the top 10% of UK further education Colleges and in early 2013 were graded ‘Good’ by Ofsted.
