StarWalk, which will take place at 8pm on Saturday, September 29, at Carus Green Golf Club in Kendal, will be a time to raise funds in honour of loved-ones and explore a beautiful route around Kendal with family and friends.

It will also be a time to reflect and, if you have lost someone or know a person who is facing cancer, an opportunity to pay tribute to them.

Participants from previous StarWalks said the event gave them space to remember and celebrate special people.

The theme for this year’s StarWalk is ‘Hope and Remembrance’ and there will be a chance for each walker to light a lantern near Kendal Castle - a moment to reflect.

Walkers will all receive a t-shirt with a star on the back where they can write the name of a loved-one, if they wish. At the start of the event at Carus Green Golf Club there will be music, refreshments and a warm-up.

Elizabeth Cook, who walked in a friend’s memory at a previous StarWalk, said: “I did the walk on my own and it was lovely to have the time and the space to remember a very dear friend of mine who died of prostate cancer.

“I remembered all the good times and the thought of my friend kept me going even though I had sore feet!

“It was heart-warming to see large groups of friends and smaller family groups doing the same. Everyone had the name of someone on the t-shirt. For a few hours I felt just a little bit closer to my friend. A special experience.”

The scenic 5km and 10km routes will take in country roads, Kendal Castle, the town centre and parkland.

Carus Green Golf Club has kindly waived its fee and the StarWalk starts and finishes there. There will also be refreshments at the end of the walk.

“With the focus on Hope and Remembrance, StarWalk 2018 will be even more special than before.

“We’re grateful to Carus Green Golf Club for their support, their events space offers a perfect start to the walk in beautiful surroundings.”
