Stagecoach 'tourist' bus from Lancashire to the Lake District is back - here's when it's running
A popular bus that takes outdoor lovers from Lancashire to the Lake District is coming back.
Lancashire County Council (LCC) has announced that the Stagecoach Service X8 will be back for the summer 2026 season - but with an extra stop this year.
The authority said: “From March 28, 2026 Stagecoach will reintroduce this service for the Summer 2026 season. The route will be adjusted to additionally serve Lancaster Bus Station in both directions.”
The route of the X8 is now Chorley – Preston – Lancaster – Windermere – Keswick.

The Post has asked Stagecoach for more information on the route and pricing, but in previous years the service has called in at bus stations at the named stops, and typically takes two to three hours. It is not known whether bus passes can be used on this service.
The news of the service’s return as been hailed as “fantastic” by local ramblers, who say that it will be cheaper than driving and parking.
