Sporting centre bid at West End park

Recently, the Pavilion cafe at the park was taken over by Graham Buckley and his son Ben and along with the Regent Park Crown Green Bowling Centre, there are plans to attract bowlers from the ages of eight to 108.

Lancaster City Council has also revealed plans for a multi-use games area costing £75k and an all weather football pitch for the park.

This could mean that Regent Park could become a centre for sport in the West End of Morecambe.

Coach Brian Cooke said: “We are leasing the whole building which includes the tuition centre and the cafe.

“We want to sell and hire bowls and we also have two green friendly wheelchairs and walking aids and seats to encourage those with disabilities to take part. We could offer french boules and perhaps five-a-side football, we could be a base for that.”

Coach Graham Buckley said: “All this makes use of the facility and gives it back to the community.”

Acouncil spokesman said: “The work at Regent Park is a perfect example of how the council is working together with communities to develop much-needed local facilities.

“But we need more people to get involved and help not only with their time but also to raise the funds necessary. to complete the masterplan. The remainder of the masterplan, which will seea junior football pitch and multi-use games areas, will be delivered as and when funding becomes available.”
