A sponsored swim was held at Heysham High School in memory of a nine-year-old Heysham girl who died suddenly.

The event to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society and for Emily’s Starlite set up by Emily Hood’s parents to raise money for the local hosapital, had 28 swimmers doing a combined 1,194 lengths or 29,850 meters or 18.5 miles.

Amongst the swimming team were Emily’s family members, school friends from St Peter’s C.E Primary School, family, friends and members of the public who were touched learning of Emily’s heartbreaking story. Morecambe’s branch of McDonalds sponsored the event and also kindly provided a face painter.

The Heysham Co-op provided goodie bags for all the swimmers, Park View Residential Home in Morecambe generously provided all the stock for the tuck shop, snd there were many raffle prizes from other donators.

Due to generous donations and sponsor money, everyone managed to raise money for good causes.
