“And given the Council’s plan to chop down the trees in Lancaster Market Square and replace with planters, is this a taste of what’s to come there?”

Suzannah Harrison said: “They are awful! Morecambe town centre lost parking spaces for them! It’s a lovely big paved area tho, maybe my toddler could have a kick about on there!! Ridiculous!”

Shelley Louise Hall said: “I’m sure the flowers will look lovely in the spring/summer and it may help us to lift our spirits when the streets are filled with fly tipping, bus services have been terminated and our local swimming pools and libraries have closed down down due to council cuts!”

A spokesman for Lancaster City Council said: “The colour of the planters reflects those in the Morecambe Bay brand which was developed in conjunction with local businesses and tourism organisations.

“They were installed back in September and so have been there for four months.

“The plants that have been chosen are perennials and when properly established will bring some greenery to this area. “More information on the brand and the colours can be found online at www.marketinglancashire.com/.../morecambe-bay-brand.”
