Police were called at 5.30am on Thursday to Halton village news on High Road, Halton, following reports of an assault.

A man is alleged to have entered a store with a knife and demanded money from a worker.

The worker suffered cuts to his hands before the attacker left the store.

The man, who is described as wearing dark clothing and a scarf, is believed to have driven off in a Mercedes car.

The worker was taken to Royal Lancaster Infirmary for treatment and since transferred to Royal Preston Hospital.
