Schoolgirl rapist caged for 14 years

A man who raped and assaulted a schoolgirl over a four-year period in Morecambe has been caged for 14 years.

Judge Robert Altham told Paul Heath, of Buckingham Road, Morecambe, he would be subject to an extended eight-year licence period on his release from prison.

The 33-year-old was charged following an investigation by Lancashire police officers.

His victim, who was as young as eight at the time of some of his vile crimes, cannot be identified for legal reasons.

Prosecuting, Susan Carter said the allegations, which relate to a range of sexual attacks, related to a period of four years.

He pleaded guilty to six counts of the rape of the young girl, and another of attempting to rape her.

Heath also admitted a charge of causing or inciting the young Lancashire girl to engage in a sexual act.

In addition he pleaded guilty to a further three counts of making indecent photographs of children in a period between 2011 and 2012.

The offences took place in Morecambe, Preston Crown Court was told at a hearing last week.
