Scania apprentice of the year hails from our city

Stephen Cartwright who works for SJ Bargh Lancaster picked up the prestigious award for apprentices in their second year after competing against entrants from across the UK, achieving the highest-ever average score

Scania’s apprenticeship programme, which is run by Skillnet, recruits up to 70 apprentices each year and is one of the largest in the heavy vehicle industry. Its annual Apprentice of the Year competition began in 2008 and recognises the growing talent within the company.

Allan McLean, Head of Fleet, Sales and Service at SJ Bargh Lancaster, said: “Stephen is already a very capable mechanic and continues to display the desire to continue developing within the role.

“He continues to impress in the workshop and to raise the bar for himself and his peers. We are very proud of his achievements and extremely excited to see him develop further.”

Laurence Medina, Head of Learning and Development at Scania, said: “This year’s apprentices showed an impressive level of maturity and a breadth of talent across both technical and non-technical areas.”
