After a rocky few years, the agricultural show has made a comeback and has relaunched at Salesbury Hall, Ribchester, near Preston.

Today it was welcoming visitors to what it hopes will be a whole new lease of life for the event which was once a fixture on the Lancashire calendar.

The historic show, organised by the Royal Lancashire Agricultural Society, has had a troubled history and has been scaled down or cancelled in recent years owing to bad weather and problems finding a suitable site.

But now organisers are confident the massive event can be successfully revived.

Marketing director Emma Walton said: “It’s fantastic to be back – we are really excited about it. The response on social media has been amazing and advance ticket sales have been great.”

The three-day event was kicking off today - hopefully in good weather - with a ladies day.

There was also a host of attractions, and many trade stands. Main ring entertainment includes a quad and motorcycle stunt show, shire horse displays, and show jumping.

The countryside and livestock village was hosting sheep dog demonstrations, ferret racing, gundog demonstrations, flyball and dog agility and the Lancashire Young Farmers tug-o-war.

Historic military vehicles were also on show.

Organisers say much of the credit goes to Colin Mustoe of Salesbury Hall, who contacted them to suggest the possibility of reviving the show on his land. Salesbury Hall had staged the event in 2005 and 2006 - and the society jumped at the chance.

Adult admission to the show is £10 on the door
