The re-opening of the road will coincide with the 12 month closure of Foundry Lane.

The changes will come into force on June 29, when Kellet Lane will welcome traffic again, following completion of the new Carus Bridge.

With a deck spanning over 90 metres, Carus Bridge will carry Kellet Lane traffic over the link road, 11m below the new road surface.

The Foundry Lane closure will allow Costain engineers to start work to extend the existing bridge over the M6 to accommodate the new northbound sliproads underneath.

There will be no through route due to the removal of the existing bridge over the M6 from the junction of Four Lane’s end to the mini-roundabout in Halton (Halton Road). The sign-posted diversion for the closure of Foundry Lane will send traffic south on Kellet Lane, turning left on Halton Road to Halton. The same route will be used in reverse for traffic from Halton Road.

Once closed, access to Foundry Lane will only be available to residents and businesses from one end of the closure depending on which side of the M6 they are located.

Costain Project Director Andrew Langley said: “The entire deck of Foundry lane must be removed, which will unfortunately require a full motorway closure. We’re working hard with our partners to limit the closures required to off-peaks times”

“Commuters will need to be aware that when we close the M6 between junction 34 and 35, the diverted traffic will need to use the A6. We will give as much notice as possible once these dates are confirmed.”

Caton Road is also due to close this weekend as part of Heysham Link Road works.

Drivers who use Caton Road (A683) east of the M6 and junction 34 at Lancaster are being advised of a full road closure between 8pm Friday June 26 and 6am Monday June 29.

A section of the road will need to close to enable works to continue on the new Bulk Green junction that connects Caton Road to the southbound sliproads of the M6.

Engineers will close Caton Road from southbound traffic lights east to Denny Beck.

Although diversion signs will be erected, drivers are being advised familiarise themselves with alternative routes and plan their journeys ahead.
