RNLI crews called to help man

Liverpool Coastguard were called out to High Arnside at 1.20pm on Sunday, October 12.

Whenthe volunteer hovercraft crew arrived, the Coastguard told them that the man thought to be in danger had made his own way back to shore and did not need their help.

The hovercraft crew were then stood-down and returned to the lifeboat tation.Morecambe RNLI hovercraft volunteer crew member and press officer, Colin Midwinter, said: ‘Although our help was not required on this occasion, we would always rather launch and ensure that people are safe; than not be called and people needlessly put at risk.”

The RNLI operates more than 230 lifeboat stations in the UK and Ireland and has more than 100 lifeguard units on beaches around the UK. Since it was founded in 1824 its lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved over 137,000 lives.
