Risk of flooding as Olympic torch arrives

PEOPLE lining the route of the Olympic torch through the Lancaster district this morning faced torrential rain, with the Met Office issuing a severe weather warning.

The torch relay was due to arrive in Carnforth at 9.47am having set out from Kendal.

It was due in Morecambe at 10.36am and Lancaster city centre at around at 1:40pm.

The severe weather warning covers an area taking in large swathes of Lancashire, including the Lancaster district, as well as parts of Greater Manchester and Merseyside.

The Met Office says there is a risk of flooding and a danger of winds of up to 50mph.
