GUITAR sensation Xuefei Yang is back by huge demand at Lancaster University on Thursday, March 22 to perform alongside the Lancashire Sinfonietta, directed by the Endellion Quartet leader, Andrew Watkinson.
Xuefei Yang releases her new disc of Bach concerti through EMI in the spring. For the last concert in the season for the Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Art’s international concert series, Yang will perform her arrangement of the E Major violin concerto alongside Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez.
The Lancashire Sinfonietta will perform one of Mozart’s final symphonies – No40 the G minor – a piece which Wagner described as a work of “indestructible beauty”.
A spokesman for the institute said: “Born in Beijing following the Cultural Revolution, an era where Western music and instruments were banned, Xuefei Yang was the first ever guitarist in China to enter a music school and became the first to launch an international professional career.
“Now based in the UK, Xuefei Yang is acclaimed as one of the world’s finest classical guitarists.
Yang’s first public appearance at the age of 10, at the China International Guitar Festival, received such acclaim that the Spanish ambassador in China immediately presented her with a concert guitar.
