The brand new series goes behind the scenes at conservation charity The Landmark Trust, following restorations and delving into the history surrounding some of Britain’s buildings.

In the first episode, Alastair Dick-Cleland visits the Music Room in Sun Street to follow a gilt-edged overhaul to the ornate bedroom plasterwork.

Viewers will see a craftsman carefully place gold leaf 1/3000th of an inch thick on to beautiful Baroque plasterwork before he creates “marble” using paint, stale beer and a swan’s feather.

The programme also features a look at the demolition and assessment of a Georgian villa in Lyme Regis and a building on the Waterloo battlefield.

The programme airs on Channel 4 tonight, Wednesday, October 14, at 8pm.
