Popular caravan park owner dies

Fred Robinson and his wife Margaret marked the 25th anniversary of the park’s Stepping Stones restaurant with a special party at the family-run business in Cabus in July.

The couple had built up their business over decades, purchasing Claylands Farm on Weavers Lane when they first married.

Fred, 80, who had been in declining health, died at home.

The father of five was was remembered with affection at his funeral at St Peter’s church, Scorton.

Brought up at Fiddler’s Farm in Great Eccleston, he was in the RAF before marrying and purchasing his farm, now known as Claylands Park.

It turned out the farm was a popular pitch for campers and Fred and Margaret created a successful business, opening a clubhouse in the ground floor of their home and raised their family.

By 1990 they decided it was time to share their home’s river views with customers and built a conservatory extension prompting Fred to declare: “We had to give up our house and turn our home into the lounge bar.”

Fred’s son Alan said: “He had a nice send-off. We had a tour round the Park before we went up to the church.

“He was very, very kind, very generous. He was very hard working.”
