Pools thrown a lifeline

THREE community swimming pools earmarked for the axe last year look set set to remain open.

Lancaster City Council spends £133,500 a year running Carnforth, Hornby and Heysham pools on behalf of owner Lancashire County Council.

But in February last year, the council’s cabinet agreed to give county 14 months notice of its intention to withdraw from the agreement as they tried to find ways of cutting costs – sparking protests from pool users.
