Morecambe Town Council deliver a £9k early Christmas present to Stanley's community centre in Heysham

Stanley's community centre in Heysham has been awarded a £9k grant from Morecambe Town Council.

The grant, totalling £9,049, will support online sessions with groups and individuals to promote positive wellbeing and assist people with mental health and skill development to reduce isolation and loneliness whilst Covid-19 restrictions are in place across Lancaster.

Cllr Cary Matthews, Chairman of Morecambe Town Council, said: “Morecambe is lucky to have an organisation such as Stanleys Community Centre who encourage so many people to make healthy life choices and ensure incidents of crisis are reduced. There are many people suffering across our community and Stanleys Community Centre will now be able to provide much needed support to residents through a host of activities such as self care sessions, craft workshops, cookery lessons, model building exercises, and much more”.

Cllr Jim Pilling, chairman of Morecambe Town Council’s Grants Committee, said: "Projects such as this that focus on both mental and physical health will undoubtedly increase the quality of life for the people of Morecambe. If there are any individuals in need of support, they should contact Stanleys Community Centre to benefit from this grant. Building stronger and healthier communities is at the core of Morecambe Town Council and it is a privilege to support key community organisations that can deliver such wide ranging impacts across the town”.

The Council will be announcing a number of further grants in the new year. There is approximately £20,000 still to be awarded, and community organisations are encouraged to apply for a grant by visiting www.morecambe.gov.uk.
