Deadline looms for registering to vote - and here's how you can apply for a postal vote

The deadline for applying online to register to vote is Monday, April 19, and anyone wishing to apply for a postal vote must submit their form in time for in to be received by their local

borough or district council before 5pm on Tuesday, April.

All 84 seats on Lancashire County Council are up for election on Thursday, May 6, with those elected due to serve a four-year term as a county councillor.

Special arrangements are being made to ensure polling stations are Covid-safe for everyone who wants to vote in person, such as having screens up and asking people to bring their own

pen or pencil.

Angie Ridgwell, returning officer for the Lancashire County Council elections, said: “The elections in May are your chance to choose the people who will take important decisions about

those services in the coming years.

“But you can only have your say in those elections if you are registered to vote. If you are not yet registered to vote, or wish to apply for a postal vote, there is still time, but you need to act

now as the deadline is fast approaching.

“We know some people may be concerned about going out to vote in person due to the pandemic, which is why special arrangements are being made to ensure polling stations are Covid-

safe.

“Many people vote by post simply for convenience, however this is also a way to have your say without having to go to the polls if you don’t feel comfortable doing that at the moment.

“To apply for a postal vote, please complete the form in time for it to be received by your local district or borough council before the deadline on Tuesday 20 April.”
