Around 2am, two men forced entry to the Co-Op store in Lancaster Road through the roller shutter door at the front of the shop.

They attached chains to the machine and tried to prise it open by fixing the chains to a dark-coloured Land Rover Discovery and attempting to drive the vehicle at force.

No money was taken, but extensive damage was caused to the front of the store and the ATM machine.

No other items were stolen during the raid.

DS Mark Dickinson from Blackpool CID said: “We believe this was a targeted attack by two men, however it is possible there were more involved as the pair could have changed vehicles during their getaway from the scene and others may have assisted.

“I am asking anyone who may have seen any suspicious vehicles lurking in the area at the time to contact the police.

“Similarly, if anyone knows anything about this incident that may help us with our investigation, please get in contact with us.”
