Police cuts force stations to close

COCKERHAM Police Station is to be closed as part of a bid to save cash.

The station is one of 14 to be axed and sold off across the county as part of a cost cutting measure by Lancashire Constabulary.

Under a similar move in Cumbria, Kirkby Lonsdale is to lose its police officer and use of an office in the town, and Milnthorpe police house could also close.

A spokesman for Lancashire Constabulary said: “The constabulary is facing significant cuts as a result of the government’s Comprehensive Spending Review.

“We have been preparing for these cuts for some time and have saved around £10m over the past two years through the programme of organisational reviews but clearly this will not be enough.
