Planned power cuts may be necessary in Lancaster and surrounding area

Engineers restored power to Lancaster, Morecambe and the surrounding area this morning and customers have been asked to conserve energy where possible.

Mark Williamson, operations director at Electricity North West, said: “The substation is back online but not yet operating at full capacity. We are continuously monitoring demand but if the demand exceeds the available capacity within the substation we may have to remove supplies to up to 1,500 customers for a short time later today to avert further unplanned power cuts.

“We know how difficult this situation is for everyone involved and we are doing the best we can to manage power supplies for everyone. We will provide further updates throughout the day.”

Teams from Electricity North West are also working in Cumbria to restore power to the remaining 1,047 properties affected in the county after flooding cut power to a number of local substations.
