Over 1,000 ladies braved the showers on Saturday night to rewind to the 80s to raise money for St John's Hospice on their 10th Moonlight Walk.

Walking 14km or 25km through the night around Lancaster and Morecambe, the streets were filled with bright colours, tutus, leg warmers and bangles as the ladies walked in memory of loved ones in aid of St John’s.

The 1980s theme for the event was inspired by the hospice celebrating 30 years of care in the community since 1986.

It also marked their 10th Moonlight Walk.

When the funds raised from Saturday’s event are counted up, The Moonlight Walk will have raised over £1 million for the hospice over the 10 years.

Fundraising manager at St John’s Hospice, Jo Humphrey said: “The Moonlight Walk is our biggest event of the year, and probably our most well-known.

“To still be drawing crowds of over 1,000 ladies after 10 years is testament to their support and to our wonderful staff, volunteers and marshals for putting on a great night.

“To hit the £1 million raised mark for a local charity like ours is a phenomenal achievement.

“We are forever in the debt of our community for the support they continue to show us year after year.

“The 80s theme was great fun too and everyone really got involved. The atmosphere was amazing.”

St John’s Hospice would also like to thank their sponsors, whose support saves thousands of pounds for the hospice.
