Person suffers smoke inhalation in suspicious city blaze

Fire investigators believe a blaze that left one person in need of medical treatment this morning may have been started deliberately.

Two crews from Lancaster and one from Morecambe were called to a house in Ashton Road at around 1.46am, before using a hose reel jet to put out the flames.

One person suffered from smoke inhalation and was treated by paramedics, but is not understood to have been hurt, a spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said.

It was not immediately clear which room the fire started in, or what damage was ultimately caused, but firefighters were forced to wear breathing masks because of the severity of the smoke, which was later cleared from the property using large ventilation fans.

Information on the blaze can be reported to the police on 101.
