Photos and video as filming begins for sixth series of Morecambe ITV crime drama The Bay

It’s lights, camera, action as TV crews arrived in Morecambe once again to film hit crime drama The Bay.

As we reported earlier this month, filming was due to begin for the sixth series of the popular ITV show.

And the TV crews arrived in town on Tuesday, setting up camp in the Festival Market car park and getting to work straight away by fitting a new shop front at Grow Kitchen in Queen Street – transforming it into a pizzeria called Promenade Pizza.

As a result, Queen Street was closed to traffic on Wednesday, with pedestrians also redirected around side streets during filming.

ITV confirmed in November that they had commissioned a sixth series of the hit detective drama, following the success of its fifth series earlier that year.

At the time they said filming would begin in Morecambe on the new series in 2026. Reports at the time suggested spring was likely.

The Bay, which was co-created and written by Lancaster-based Daragh Carville, has been praised for its gritty storytelling, strong character development, and for portraying the toll that such intense work takes on the detectives’ own lives and families.

The picturesque yet moody setting of Morecambe Bay captures both the beauty and bleakness of the coastal town, reflecting the darker undercurrents of the cases themselves.
