Plans submitted by Lancaster City Council, which owns and operates the centre in Doris Henderson Way, reveal proposals for a “children’s role play” park based around roadways, as well as a mini golf course and playground.

An outdoor food and drink hatch, called Refuel Cafe, with bench seating, has already been developed on the site to the left of the main entrance of the leisure centre.

The site is a former staff car park and a grassed public space area which was last used in 2016.

The new plans are part of the wider development of Salt Ayre, a £5m project which has included

a revamped gym, a new immersive cycle studio and functional training suite, an indoor climbing space, Gravity outdoor flight tower and Energy indoor soft play area.
