Organisers of Vintage by the Sea festival, Deco Publique said: "We have taken the difficult decision to cancel this year's Vintage by the Sea Festival, due to take place on Saturday September 5 – Sunday September 6, 2020 in Morecambe, due to the ongoing situation regarding Covid-19.

"Vintage by the Sea is a celebratory experience encouraging social interaction, participation in workshops, music and dancing, the meeting of friends and family, and large scale visitation.

"It seems increasingly unlikely that all social restrictions will be lifted by September making it very difficult to plan and deliver a festival of this scale that will be safe for Morecambe, our visitors, artists, performers, and our teams.

"Together with our partners, we’ll be doing everything in our power to develop the festival behind the scenes for the future and with your support, we will be back stronger than ever."

This year's festival would have been the eighth Vintage by the Sea festival in Morecambe and Deco Publique said the festival regularly attracts more than 40,000 people over the weekend, bringing approximately £1m revenue into Morecambe and supporting full hotel capacity in the town.

The festival first came to Morecambe in 2013 and was a joint venture between Deco Publique and Wayne and Gerardine Hemingway MBE to bring their vintage festival brand to Morecambe.

Every September the seafront provides a stunning backdrop for a programme of cultural content inspired by the 1920s to the 1990s - including a lineup of classic cars, cocktails, vintage and design marketplaces, DJ sets, Best in Show fashion parades, workshops, street food and walkabout performance.

The programme develops every year, with highlights including a Battle-of-Britain Memorial Flypast, art trail, Vintage Pooch Parade, a curated music and art programme and an outreach project with The Sands Care Home.

Delivered in partnership with Lancaster City Council - Vintage by the Sea is supported with funding from Lancaster City Council, Morecambe Town Council and Arts Council England.
