Morecambe's very own Batman and Spiderman help cheer up children celebrating birthdays under lockdown

Morecambe's very own Batman and Spiderman have been keeping children's spirits high all over the country by sending out personalised birthday video messages.

Dean Fearn and Kevin Cunliffe - who would normally be entertaining crowds at festivals and parties and charity events - are offer this speacial free swervice to youngsters forced to celebrate their birthday under lockdown.

Dean said: "With all birthday parties being cancelled and children being left disappointed, Batman and Spiderman advertised on Facebook for free personalised birthday messages.

"The parents simply send us a message with the childs name/age and then Batman and Spiderman send them a personalised video message.

"Between us, we have recieved over 200 messages so far to send video messages to children all over the country.

"Because we are unable to attend parties and visit homes as we normally would, we felt that this is the best way to put a smile on their faces during this difficult time and make them remember their birthday for the right reasons."

Parents can contact the pair either by visiting their personal Facebook pages or by visiting their Batman and Spiderman pages.

Dean added: "Once lockdown is over, Batman and Spiderman will be back visiting homes and appearing at festivals, parties and charity events."

Batman has also been taking to the street on a Thursday evening to show his appreciation to the NHS and key workers around the country.

At 8pm every Thursday Batman can be seen walking up and down Westminster Road joining in with the NHS appreciation applaud.

“It is something fun for the local residents to lift their spirits and each week there are more and more children getting their superhero costumes on too,” Dean said. “A lot of the children don’t fully understand what is going on so Batman is making it fun for them.

“Over that past few weeks i have seen a lot more passers by at 8pm coming along to applaud the NHS and also to get a picture of Batman. It’s not something you see every day.”
