Morecambe-based TV drama The Bay has been nominated in the Royal National Television North West Awards.

The ITV series has been nominated in the Best Drama Series category, while writers Daragh Carville and Furquan Akhtar have also been nominated as Best Writers.

Daragh Carville, who lives in Lancaster, announced the news on social media.

He said: "Very proud that The Bay has been nominated as Best Drama Series in the Royal National Television North West Awards & chuffed to bits to be nominated as Best Writer with Furquan Akhtar."

Three series of The Bay have aired, with a fourth is currently in production.

The Best Drama category also features Anne, The Responder and Sherwood.

The other nominees in the Best Writer category are Danny Brocklehurst for Brassic, James Graham for Sherwood and Tony Schumacher for The Responder.

The RTS Awards recognise excellence across the entire range of programme making and broadcasting skills.

The awards ceremony will be held on November 26 in Manchester.
