Morecambe veterans charity receives a cash boost

The Parachute Regimental Association (PRA) Morecambe and District were delighted to be awarded with a grant of £3,000 from the Morrisons Foundation to support community projects for Airborne Veterans and their families.

The much-needed funds enabled the charity to purchase foldable wheelchairs to allow veterans with mobility impairments to participate in events and activities arranged by the PRA.

The donation will also help the charity to support veterans during the Christmas period with hampers and social opportunities to help tackle isolation amongst their members.

Peter Neaves, Secretary of The Parachute Regimental Association Morecambe and District said: "Like many local charities the PRA rely on support from local supermarkets, street collections and the generosity of the local community to keep running but due to Covid-19 restrictions the charity has struggled throughout 2020.”

Adrian Horsley, Morrison’s Foundation Advisor said, “I’m delighted that we have been able to provide the donation to enable foldable wheelchairs to be given to service users with mobility issues.

"It is also great to know that those who may otherwise go without will be offered food hampers this Christmas by The Parachute Regimental Association Morecambe and District thanks to our grant. Supporting charities in local communities is at the heart of what the Foundation is all about and I’m pleased that we have been able to help such a great cause.”

Established at the end of World War Two, The PRA was formed to enable relationships built between service personnel to continue their friendships and arrange activities to maintain life-long companionship.

Some 75 years later The PRA, in partnership with other Regimental Charities, is still able to organise social events to keep those relationships going as well as provide welfare support and advice to those in need or distress.

The Morrisons Foundation was set up by Morrisons supermarket in 2015 and awards grants for charity projects which help improve people’s lives.

Since launching over £32 million has been donated to hundreds of charities across England, Scotland and Wales.
