A weekend run along the prom has so far raised more than £1,200 for a Morecambe family.

The event, organised by Lancaster resident Joshua Brandwood, was arranged to help Morecambe two-year-old Lexi Tindale, who has the incredibly rare neurological condition Krabbe disease, which affects just one in 100,000 births.

Josh was moved to help after reading our recent story about Lexi.

There are currently thought to be just eight children in the country with the incurable disease - and the average life expectancy is only two years old.

It is now hoped that Lexi can enjoy as much of the time she has left with her family.

"I just want to say a huge thank you to The Visitor for covering Lexi's story,"Josh said. "Your coverage resulted in an influx of donations which now currently stands at a whopping £1,244!

"The turnout on the day was fantastic and we even had people participate in the run. I'd like to particularly thank Jon and his incredibly athletic son, Joey Gibirdi, who absolutely smashed the run!

"We ran a grand total of 6.94km which is the equivalent of four miles.

"I would also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Lexi's family who turned up to cheer us on.

"The proceeds raised will be used for Lexi to make some wonderful memories with her family.

"The fundraising page will be accepting donations until Friday September 4."

Josh said: "I cannot begin to imagine the sheer anguish and heartbreak Lexi's family must feel each day knowing the inevitable. No parent wants to outlive their children.

"Although as a parent I understand that nothing people say or do will make the prospect of losing a child any easier, I couldn't help but reach out to Lexi's parents to show my love and support."
