Morecambe hovercraft called out to woman stuck on sands off Heysham

Morecambe's hovercraft crew was called out on Saturday night after reports of a Woman stuck on the sands off Heysham.

The hovercraft crew, along with the coastguard and other emergency services, attended the scene just before 11pm on Saturday.

Commander Ross Simpson and his crew launched the hovercraft from the slipway and quickly attended the scene, around 300m off the coast of Half Moon Bay.

However, while en-route the Coastguard was told that the casualty had managed to safely reach the shore with the help of the emergency services, and the hovercraft was stood down and returned to the station.

Chris Walton from Morecambe’s RNLI said: “This is the second call out in two days and all went extremely well for everyone involved. The casualty was located swiftly by emergency service colleagues resulting in a successful and safe outcome for all.”
