Morecambe Carnival cancelled for 2020 but plans for a carnival next year have been revealed

Morecambe carnival will not go ahead this year but will be held in August 2021, organisers have announced.

Morecambe Carnival committee put a statement on Facebook, saying: "Normally August would bring around the Morecambe Carnival to entertain, inspire and delight the whole community on Morecambe promenade.

"This year is different. With the ongoing coronavirus pandemic plans for MC20 have been put on hold. While lock-down has begun to ease across the country, it simply is not safe or responsible to hold or make plans for a festival weekend this year.

"Postponing the event until later in the year, perhaps into autumn has been discussed.

"However with continued uncertainty the Morecambe Carnival team have decided that the best course of action is to not hold MC20 and instead make plans for MC21.

"The Morecambe Carnival team would like to invite everyone to come and celebrate Morecambe next year at MC21 on Saturday August 14 and Sunday August 15, 2021."
