Lancaster gym-goers take on 48-hour challenge in memory of 'gym family' member

A team of keen gym-goers in Lancaster are undertaking a challenge this weekend in memory of a close friend.

The event will also see them raise money for a charity close to their hearts.

James Macadam was found on January 2 after going missing early on New Year's Day.

James was only 19 and was cold and on his own, and his family and friends believe it is important that no one else be found in the same condition.

They said James always hated the cold and wouldn’t want anyone to feel the same.

And so this weeked about 40 of the crew at Hive Athletic - CrossFit Central Lancaster and other gyms across the north west, who saw James as one of their 'family' have been undertaking a running challenge in his memory and also to raise money for homeless charity Centrepoint.

Called the 4x4x48 challenge, the Hive members will be running, walking and biking four miles every four hours for 48 hours.

The event kicked off at 4am today, Friday, and lasts until Sunday.

For those taking part, this has meant running at midnight, 4am, in the cold, rain and wind..,but this is nothing compared to those youngsters left out in the elements.
