Lancaster named one of the best places to live if you are under 35 by the Times
A city in Lancashire has been named amongst the best places to live as a young professional.
The Times recently named the 20 towns, cities and suburbs that are the best places to live if you are under 35.
To come up with their rankings of the places where “you can make the most of your post-uni, pre-kid years”, The Times says its panel considered house prices alongside their own judgment and discretion.
Included in the prestigious list of areas is just one from Lancashire, but it features proudly near the top!

Which Lancashire area features and why?
The city of Lancaster comes in as the fifth best place in the UK to live if you are under 35.
The Times specifically labels the northern city as the “best place to live if … you have an eye for a bargain” and states that the average house price is £233,000.
Explaining its inclusion, the Times writes: “Lancaster you say? Well, yes. A high-performing university and a location surrounded by England’s finest scenery, plus a good live music scene, some decent pubs and bars — Tipple, the Runner Duck or the Golden Lion for a late night — mean this old town is worth checking out.
“‘It’s got a nice atmosphere and a lot of creativity running under the surface,’ says Archie Verhoest, 24. An actor and former student at the university, he works in marketing at the Gregson, an arts and community centre. Its café is the perfect place to plug in the laptop by day and by night enjoy its tiny secret cinema, choirs, concerts and craft nights run by resident LGBTQ+ collective Queer by Gum. Archie lives in the Freehold area of the city, where he rents a terraced house with his partner, Catherine. ‘There’s a real mix of people,’ he says. ‘And I can walk in any direction and get somewhere really nice,’ he says.
