The owner has managed to walk the dog themselves until falling ill recently so has approached the Cinnamon Trust, a national charity for the elderly and terminally ill and their

pets, for help.

The fairly young Jack Russell currently is walked twice a week by a couple of volunteers but really requires more exercise.

“If we could generate additional volunteers in the area that would be great for everyone local who needs the help,” said a Cinnamon Trust spokesperson.

The Trust currently has around 40 volunteers in North Lancashire and Cumbria but they are already committed.

All volunteers help in ways to suit them.

Teams take it in turn to visit housebound owners to take dogs for a walk while some foster pets when owners face hospital or respite care.

They can even take pets to vets, clean out budgies cages or cats litter trays.

The Trust exists to keep owners and pets together for as long as possible and aims to relieve owners worries about their pets welfare during and after their own lifetime.

Pets can be registered with the Cinnamon Trust so they go into the charity’s guardianship should the owner die or need residential care.

The pets are then rehomed with foster volunteers for life with the charity paying vets fees, providing holiday cover and ongoing support.
