Delivery van smashes into Lancaster shop window

A delivery van caused a bit of a scene among shoppers in Lancaster city centre this week after the vehicle was accidentally reversed into the front of the Specsavers store.

The white van backed into the shop front in Cheapside at around 9.30am on Tuesday, shattering some of the front windows of the high street optician.

An eye witness to the incident said police officers arrived on the scene around 20 minutes later, and the driver had been waiting at the site of the accident to speak to them.

Specsavers in Cheapside, which offers both sight and hearing tests, opens at 8.30am, but no one was injuured in the incident.

A spokesperson for the store said on Tuesday that the business was able to continue operating.

"The store remains open as police have been and made the area safe,” they said.

"The damage is to the front of the store windows, which will be boarded up shortly and replaced."
