A stunning piece of ceramic artwork in the entrance to Morecambe’s Winter Gardens has been lovingly restored.

The ‘Lady of the Sea’ is now back on display in the promendade theatre ahead of the venue’s final few weeks before it closes for the winter months and more major renovation work.

The work has been painstakingly restored by Rieveley Restorations as part of a grant to the Winter Gardens from The Pilgrim Trust.

Each piece of different ceramic tile had to be handmade to match the original Campbell designed interiors with tiles used bearing the Minton factory marks.

Photos shared by the theatre show the ‘before’ with damage occurring decades ago when somebody tried to take them off the entrance, and the ‘after’ when the Lady of the Sea can be seen again.
