23-year-old Morecambe FC defender Christian Mbulu found dead at his home in Preston

23-year-old defender Christian Mbulu, who had signed for Morecambe FC earlier this year has died, the club has confirmed.

The news comes after the body of a man aged in his 20s was found at an address in Cottam after reports of a sudden death yesterday (Tuesday, May 26, 2020).

Police were called to an address on Greenfinch Avenue in Cottam at around 1.30pm.

Police say the death is not being treated as suspicious at this time and a file will be passed to the coroner.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "We were called at around 1.30pm today (Tuesday, May 26) to an address on Greenfinch Avenue, Cottam, to reports of a sudden death.

"We attended and sadly found the body of a man aged in his 20s."

The 23-year-old had only been with the club for four months after arriving in the January transfer window.

Morecambe FC issued a statement on Tuesday evening, which read: "Everyone at Morecambe FC is deeply saddened to learn of Christian’s death and would like to extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends at this very sad time.

"He was only 23 and the news of his sudden and untimely passing has been a shock to us all.

"Christian came to the club in January and proved to be an extremely popular member of the squad.

"His loss will be painfully felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

"The club would ask everyone to respect Christian’s family’s privacy at this sad time."
