Pensioner, 72, seriously injured at pub

A 72-year-old man has suffered a serious head injury in an assault at a Morecambe pub.

Police were called around 11.40pm on Friday, May 13, to reports of an assault at The Kings Arms pub in Marine Road.

The man was found at the scene with a serious head injury and taken to Royal Preston Hospital for treatment.

He remains at hospital in a critical but stable condition.

Detectives believe the man was injured following an alleged altercation with door staff and are appealing for information.

Det Sgt Mark Dickinson, of Lancashire Police, said: “We are appealing for information after a 72-year-old man was injured following an incident at The King’s Arms pub in Morecambe on Friday.

“Although the male’s head injury is serious, we believe it was the result of a low-level confrontation with a member of security at the pub.

“We do not believe it was a sustained or violent attack.

“The injured male remains in a critical but stable condition and his family are aware.”

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police on 101 quoting log reference 1738 of May 13.

A 41-year-old man from Lancaster was arrested in connection with the incident on suspicion of Section 20 wounding/causing grievous bodily harm without intent.

He has been bailed until June 21.
