Garstang care home residents team up with local football teams for matchday magic
A Garstang care home has joined the nation in celebrating a summer of sport...
Football fever officially kicked off at a care home in Garstang as residents welcomed local football teams for an afternoon of sporting fun.
Care UK’s Meadow Croft, on Garstang Bypass Road, teamed up with visitors from Foxhall FC and Staining FC Juniors to take part in a football match and join the nation in celebrating the huge summer of sport.
On the day, residents went head-to-head with the local teams in a football match, showing off their competitive spirit. The residents then sat down to enjoy watching Foxhall FC go up against the players from Staining FC Juniors, with the game ending in a draw. Residents were also rewarded for their skills and sportsmanship with football trophies, which are now proudly displayed at the home.
Resident Gordon Chalk said: “I loved the day, especially because it brought back memories of when I was a child playing football with my friends.”
The event was part of Care UK’s ‘Goal-den Moments' initiative which aims to bring generations together, encouraging residents to reminisce about cherished football memories with the local community and create new memories together
Diane Leeming, home manager, said: “We had a ball opening our doors to Foxhall FC and Staining FC Juniors to take part in the football matches! For many residents, football is more than just the beautiful game – it represents a lifetime of treasured memories and traditions.
“It was a wonderful opportunity to bring different generations together for a day of matchday magic. It was truly heartwarming to watch residents reminisce and share their favourite football stories from years gone by.
“We’d like to extend a huge thank you to the players Foxhall FC and Staining FC Juniors for joining us and making this a day to remember."
