Parents pay tribute to tragic tot Chanel

Little Chanel Garner, who was obsessed with the Disney film Frozen, died in hospital from serious injuries caused by a stone fire surround falling onto her.

Police and paramedics were called to Euston Grove in Morecambe just after noon on Friday August 14.

Chanel was initially taken to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary before being transferred to Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool where she sadly died shortly before 7pm.

A funding page set up by Andrea Briggs and Chantelle Watson at gofundme.com has so far raised more than £2,100 for the family.

Some of this will be used towards a plaque in Regent Park, Morecambe, in memory of Chanel.

Chanel’s mum Dezarelle Kellett and dad Aaron Garner said: “Firstly we would just like to say a huge thank you to everyone for your kind messages we have received since the tragic accident which sadly claimed the life of our beautiful Chanel.

“She was taken away from us at just three years old suddenly, and words cannot express how we are feeling at this time.

“Chanel was such a happy little girl who loved nothing more than to dance, sing and dress up, especially as a princess, which is what she always will be.

“She touched the hearts of so many people with her cheeky smile, big blue eyes and wicked personality.

“She could be a mischievous little madam but she made everyone laugh with her antics, especially us.

“Her love for Disney’s Frozen was immense and nearly everything she did revolved round Elsa, Anna and Olaf.”

Dez and aron added their thanks to the numerous people who have helped them.

They said: “We would like to thank Andy (you know who you are) for all his help. He came into our house as a total stranger, took control and sat with Chanel talking to her until help arrived.

“We would also like to thank the paramedics, the air ambulance crew, staff at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary and Alder Hey Hospital, the police and also a huge thank you to Frank at the bereavement suite at Alder Hey who is an amazing gentleman who helped us so much through this and has looked after Chanel while she has been there with him.

“We are aware that there have been lots of donations and sites set up on Facebook etc; we would just like to say that we do appreciate genuine donations and the money raised will be donated by us to the people that need it the most and do the most amazing work, so it will be equally shared between the Air Ambulance Service and Alder Hey Childrens Hospital Bereavement Suite Liverpool.

“We will reserve a small amount for a small plaque which will hopefully be placed in Regent Park where Chanel loved to play and spent many happy hours there with her sisters.

“To all who have donated, thank you so much.

“Although we really do appreciate all the kind words and messages, we have so much to think about and so much to do and really need some time to grieve for our lovely daughter so would just like a little privacy to do just that.

“There are certain people we would like to thank personally, and we will do that at a later date when we feel up to it.”
